We have created the confusion ourselves.
I may have well misunderstood when you said gas. I assumed you were referring to gasoline, since I usually differentiate between gasoline (gas) and methanol (glow) fuels. There are a lot of buzz words to learn in this hobby. Sometimes we talk about electrics (lekkies, electron burners) and wet engines (gasoline, glow, IC, nitro, slimers).
Gasoline, gassers, ignition and gas usually refer to wet engines using gasoline. Other wet engines using methanol based fuel are many times referenced as glow or nitro (although nitromethane may not actually be in the fuel). The electric crowd lumps both gasoline and methanol into the catagory of slimer since both may leave an oil film on the plane. Glow engines tend to leave more residue since the oil may contain more castor oil than gasoline blends. The gasoline fuels contain oil, but the oil is usually petroleum based and most will be burned during combustion. Synthetic oils are almost totally consumed and leave very little residue.
