I would guess that he thinks the "fool" with the trainer is to blame.
If the laps were being flown over the runway, and the collision happened over the runway, that might point blame toward the racer. The air directly above the runway really needs to be clear for taking off and landing. The actual traffic pattern should be beyond the runway.
If you're already flying (fast or slow does not matter) you definitely have your attention focused on your own plane. A person preparing take off should be aware of the planes that are already in the air before going up, and should not fly directly into the path of the plane(s) that are already up.
We yell "taking off" before going up any time another plane is in the air.
