Default RE: ASP vs. OS

I have 1 OS 1.08 and a couple of Maggie 1.08s. All 3 run very well and normally 1-flip start. As Dave said, the Maggies tend to be torquers. Mine run best on a 15-8 or 16-6 prop. The OS 1.08, a supurb engine, seems to run well no matter what I put on it.

This past weekend I was at a warbird meet and one of the fliers had a Cermark F-16 with an OS 1.08 with a long tuned pipe and a short, high pitched prop. It ran really well and was pretty fast.

The instructions for the Mag 1.08 recommend a small prop, 13-8 or 14-8. I found these sizes are disappointing. The Mag .91XLS turns the small props just as well as the 1.08. It's only when you get the rpm down in the grunt range that the Mag 1.08 shines. Both of mine are on scale planes that a buddy of mine built.
