RE: Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!
Crash,
Unfortunately, no photos now exist.
60 psi was about the tops and fueling was done with a hand pressurised "scent spray" parafin (kerosene) burner.
My dad worked for a big rolling mill manufacturer and so access to metals was of no great concern but if you could get hold of even 37 mm cannon shell casings they made good steam generators for small systems.
There were some hardy souls who did hand fire with what we would call particulate coal. Steam demand wasn't very high so firebox size was relatively small so maintaining steam pressure could get a bit tricky. but considering that most of the engines were in the order of 1 1/4" bore and stroke, efficiency was of no concern.
I served an apprenticeship with a company manufacturing steam turbines and I spent a lotta years in the tool room as a tool and jig maker. I was always building stuff...had a lovely 2 1/2" x 2" and 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" double expansion steam engine that would run on 8 psig.
All gone now since I came here.
But I did find a beautiful HO Beyer Garrett manufactured by an Australian (Chinese..?) company for a ridiculous price so I think temptation may win here.
Winds are down and 400 is waiting so I'm away.
Charlotte under the lights tonight...still like Mark Martin to win....just not jimmy johnson or kurt busch.
