I've never had a problem with a fuel DOT leaking.

As far as brands, I often use the DuBro:

The DuBro type have a receptacle that glues to the cowl.

On these, the receptacle screws onto the cowl
I've also used both of these and they work great. I really like the DuBro set since it gives you the tube and clunk for the 3rd line.
