Default RE: steel spur gear

ORIGINAL: Mspeed

One thing that always scares me of ever running a metal spur is if something gets stuck inbetween it and the bell. Inside the tranny all the gears are protected, but with a spur it can happen. Just think about the damage you could do to everything by a nice size stone locking it up at that point. The motor will have to lock up or break the metal teeth off the bell or spur to take the load off unless you get off the gas and let the clutches release.
actually what happens is the engine just stalls out...its happened on my truggy which has no slipper clutch....I thought we were talking Monster Trucks here and they all have a slipper clutch which is the part that is designed to give not the spurgear......most 1/8th scale buggies and truggies run a steel spur and no slipper and I have yet to hear of anyone blowing out their diffs by catching a rock in between the CB and SG.....they stall out you remove the rock or obstruction and fire it up again.
