Yup, lean on idle, I'd suspect. I'd start by riching both carb needles maybe 1/8 turn to be sure it's rich. Then start and tune the engine from there.

Different loading requires different carb tuning. Ignition timing is relative only to engine speed, so it's not likely the issue.
