Make it at least 3 feet deep and 5 feet wide. I didn't and man i can't tell you how much i regret it. By the nature of the hobby you probably will expand you collection, so i wuld make it fairly big so you can use it for you cars and put your tool box on it. Like ZJ said put a lip on it all the way around.
