RE: DL 50 Muffler is JUNK!!!
I, too, had the stinger fly off my DL50 somewhere out in the field. In discussing this with Bob, at DL, things like prop balance and spinner balance can play a huge role in the life of the stinger relative to the vibration induced by the prop and the spinner. That vibration can be amplified by the time it gets to and through the stinger what with the length of the otherwise unsupported stinger.
The weld joints on my original muffler were very rough and obviously welded way too deep into the meat of the muffler for long term strength. The original muffler lasted about 6 flights. The replacement muffler I purchased from DL USA, has a much cleaner weld joint. I trust it will last much longer.
My DL50 is still a good deal. I am satisfied with the response I got from Bob. Did I get a replacement muffler for free? No. Did I expect one? No. Would I have taken one for free? Sure.
The engine is a good product as many have stated. Stuff just happens sometimes.
