Default Phoenix Dolphin 40 wooden push rods

I am at the point where I install these wooden push rods. The test fit I just did was not good. They rub against the structual members and dont really line up good where the control arms are on the servos and where I think the control horns should be mounted.

Has anyone built one of these? Do I tweak the metal ends of the rods to make them clear everything? I would think that would make them want to buckle under pressure. I could set my dual rates and end points where this wold not be a problem.

Thinking of going to the LHS and getting some tube type rods and working with them instead.

PS: they are for the elevator and rudder.
