Default RE: Jet hovering 2 inches off the Ground

Why isn't it possible with a real thrust vectoring jet? Their thrust:weight ratio is better than 1... It's just they don't do it and they don't do it because if it goes wrong it goes back to the saying LSF2298 pointed out... when you're in the plane and you screw up, you don't get a redo you die. In RC we can break planes trying stuff and fix or replace them. A little lighter in the wallet but alive. In real life, not so much. But from a technical standpoint at least a few modern thrust vectoring fighters could theoretically do a tail stand. I don't think you'll ever actually see it though, at least not close to the ground.

It's impressive I have to admit, but we all have our different preferences. That is clear. For me, the first time I saw jet's I was yeah these are cool, they are very fast but they basically can't do a lot. They go from one end of the field to the other then straight up to bleed off speed and then do much the same going the other way. They can do rolls and loops and go fast but basically they seemed like a real expensive way to get bored to me. Because for me that's what "scale flying" in RC is. For others I know they are into making it every detail like the original and I do love to look at and photograph those planes. But lets face it a B-17 or B-24 etc. fought it's way into the air, it wasn't very maneuverable, it wasn't very fast, and a true scale version of it would be the same (although even very scale RC versions typically have far more power/weight than the originals but I digress) and flying like that really (to me) gets old quick. Then last year I began seeing jets with thrust vectoring... that changed everything in my view of jets. I watched a Kingcat do a descending flat spin at the DOGS show in Dayton last year and I was like hmmm this is cool. Then I saw some other stuff like this. Now I plan on getting a turbine myself and expanding into that arena. Even if it will take years to get a jet built and get a turbine cert. and years more to be able to do that sort of thing with one. If it wasn't for people like these leading the way I'd have never considered it. So in that respect I agree with i3dm.

It's not that you have to do it or even like it but the expansion of ability brings more people into the hobby and expands the horizons of the rest of us already in it and that can't help but be good for us all.
