Default Commander 2 Flight Controls

Hello All,
I'm new to the RC plane hobby however I do have 20yrs of aircraft maintenance experience while in the Air Force.
First plane I purchased is now in multiple pieces......Flyzone Cessna 182 just would not stay in the air, Doh!!!
Second plane is the Firebird Commander 2.......more or less a glider.......had many successful flights but on my last foray the plane dived in pretty hard (winds were to high to fly and totally my fault for flying in high winds). Anyways, I repaired the obvious damage but now the flight controls don't work. Throttle works great but when I move the right stick (steering controls) nothing happens. The cables move freely by hand so I'm guessing its the servo. I did look at the circuit card and I'm not sure but right over the servo there seems to be a diode or something missing. Anyone else have problems with no response to the controls????? I really want to stay with the hobby since after retiring from the Air Force I do miss being around aircraft however its hard to keep the wife happy when both planes I've purchased are basically out of commission. Was hoping for a quick fix instead of buying a replacement pod/boom.
Thanks for any and all responses!!!
