Default RE: Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!

J-Michael,
Beautiful Miss Bud....what is driving it.
When I was building speedy boats we didn't have too many decent engines (the 60's and 70's).
My favorite was the Taplin Twin "diesel".
My speedy boats were more of the hydrofoil variety. About ten minutes up the coast from me was Vosper Thornycroft's sea trials area so I saw things up to 60 ft. lock doing very high speeds.
My favorite model was based on PT-109...about 54" long, powered by my Taplin and with a set of home built aluminium foils. It had a Graupner gearbox to take the 7,000 at the engine output down to 3000 at the 2 3/4" prop. Twin rudders. Two channel radio bought from an American serviceman and an ungodly number of 1 1/2 volt batteries in the boat needed the twin to get it through the water. Needed full "beautiful sounding" power to get her on foil but I could cut back to a "nice drone" 30% to get a nice run.
I went through the early hydros and three pointers back in England in the Sixties....we had no knowledge of the unlimiteds using Allisons and Packards as you had over here...we saw the Italian three pointers of smaller engine capacity. My full size boat (built with Honorable Pater) was a 14 ft monohull (what you might know as a river racer) with a Jag 2.4 six cylinder in it.
Loved it when turbines came to the fore in the unlimiteds over here and the different prototypes in the eighties.
Maybe that's why I dig the WIGs. Nearby dude used to run an electric duct fan wig based loosely on the "Caspian Sea Monster" the Soviets built in the eighties. He piled it up 'cos he was trying to push it too hard. He wanted plain speed and where the WIG looked good and handled well at slower speeds, once you put the power to it it would leap out of ground effect and stall and then nose in.
Dude couldn't appreciate that you needed more power to breaks the initial hull/water friction but once clear of the water he had difficulty in backing off enough.
Never mind...an interesting exercise.
Do you have video of your Miss Bud....?
Nice flying weather here so the birds will fly this eve.
New Align esc for the 400 arrives on Wed so it'll be up to my HBK2 to fill the void.
Just ordered my new EXI 450....wait and see what arrives.
Visitors,
Later Gentlemen,
Ray
