As long as the crystals matched it would not matter what it was installed in and should work fine.

I thought the S&S transmitter was different?
The S&S transmitter is generic and only requires matching crystal sets to communicate. The NON S&S transmitter IS completely different (internally) and uses different protocols to communicate.
