RE: Deadstick Landings
You can practice deadstick landings just about any time. Just announce "LANDING" before reducing the throttle to idle and go for it. Landings are landings. If you decide to go around, just announce it. Let those around you know what you are doing on take-off and landing. I'm sure they will appreciate that.
It will give you a chance to get in a few practice dead-stick landings, or at least approaches, during your field time. We not only encourage it at our field, but rather insist that new people get some dead-stick landing practice in because we know what happens when someone loses an engine and has to get down. And, for someone to be able to come in safely during real situations is a good thing.
