RE: Deadstick Landings
Ive had plenty of dead stick landing practice when I tried to use cheapo fuel in the nexstar. The things just glides so deadsticks really are uneventful. If you cant get the trainer to the runway just keep it level whenever and wherever it does go down. With most trainers you dont have to worry about stalling the plane into the ground. Now with my minnow I have had 2 deadsticks. One of which was on takeoff. with the quicker less forgiving planes you have to be careful with control movements. If you use too much you'll eventually stall the plane and have it drop to the ground. If you have altitude you shouldnt have a problem. When your lower and not on track to make it to a runway is when it gets sketchy. I just use what rudder I need to get the plane kinda where I want it and then just keep it coming in nice and level till touchdown. Dont try and jerk the plane around when your low to make it back to the runway. It usually doesnt work. Just get the plane to come in somewhere suitable and keep her level. You dont want to jab a wing into the ground or do a mini nose dive.
