I was wondering if I could get an opinion on something?
I got a bunch of
Midwest Electric Hots kits laying around, and was wondering if these could be made to fly 3D with some modifications? I picked up a bunch of them years ago when a hobby store was clearing out some stock. They only cost me $19 each!
Anyway, I was wondering if I redid the tail group with some good 3D surfaces & throws, and modified the wing with larger ailerons & no wing tips (stock length is 41" with tips). Finally, I'd have to lighten it up a whole bunch! It says the stock kit comes out to 32-36 oz. with a glow engine! The fuselage is solid wood sheeting. So I should be able to lighten it up quite a bit.
I think if I use the
Laser 3D &
Komacro 15 plans that I have as a reference, and modify whatever I can to these parameters, I may just have something that will be able to 3D. Assuming, of course, I can get the weight down to at least 20 oz.
Well, what do you think...does it have a chance?
I fly a stock Hots with a Magnum .10, and it does all normal maneuvers really well. It actually flys really big, for such a small plane. But, I haven't flown it since I've gotten into 3D stuff, and I know it definitely wouldn't do any 3D the way it is now. But if I can do the mods I want to do, and put a .15 in it...who knows?
I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter
