Himax 6332-230 efficiency improvement
If you have a Himax 6332-230 on your patternship, this may help.
I have more than 110 flights on my e-Focus II already. The Himax 6332-230 runs fine. As my previous post a while ago, the high current drew was the downside that can not compete with other brands. Since my plane is well trimmed, so I have time to tweek the ESC.
I'm using a Phoenix 110HV...... yes, it is a monster, I bought it two years ago. I had no idea how high the current will be at that time, so I got the biggest one.
I was using almost all the default settings. 10S Li-Po. Take-off weight 12.0lb.
Cutoff Voltage: Auto
Cutoff Type: Soft
Brake strength: disabled
Throttle Type: Airplane Auto
Brake delay: No
Direction: Forward
Brake Ramp: slow
PWM: 13kHz
Start power: mediun 59
Throttle response: Median 5
Current Limit: Normal
Motor Timing : Standard
After more than 40 flights of trimming and fine tuning the throttle management, I found APC 19x12WE, with 75% throttle ATV at high end matched my fly style very well. However, one AMA Master sequence in general used ~3700mAh, peak current was 75-79Amp. See attached EagleTree data, first three charts, dated 06/21/08.
Since I'm using 75% throttle ATV at high end, so I believe I have enough margin to use low advance angle (or Motor Timing for Castle Creation). I changed the advance angel from "Standard" to "low" last weekend, the results were impressive, one Master sequence usage dropped to ~3100mAh, peak current was 68-72 Amp, see attached EagleTree data, last three charts, dated 06/28/08 to 06/29/08. I didn't feel any power drops, so no change on the 75% throttle ATV.
The current is still sligtly higher than the other brands, but at least it did improved w/o lost power. So I will keep this setting for the rest of season.
