It's typical, especially in this hobby when someone has a problem that they quickly blame the equipment. It's just human nature to not immediately admit fault, but I am sure once you calm down and review all that went on, you will quickly realize it wasn't an equipment failure. I am positive that you had a set up issue. Having been in the GS aspect of rc for quite awhile, it's something I see often, and always I repeat ALWAYS people blame equipment first. Especially new to them equipment. While I'm sorry for the loss of your plane, I doubt it was the 12FG's fault. Mines been a rock from day one.
