I called ama and told them what I did and they said no problem..They sent me the paper work.I had to people look at the damage and sent that in and they sent me a check minus the 250.00 ded....SO yes it is that easy....
It only gets complicated if you are doing things in direct violation of the safety code. From the limited description provided here, that probably was not the case.
It might have been a different outcome if the story was more like:
I took my 150cc giant scale model to the local soccer field one Saturday morning. It wasn't very crowded, maybe 15 to 20 teams were there for a tournament. There seemed to be a lot of yelling, and pointing in my general direction, but my engine was so loud I couldn't hear very well. About the time I started my takeoff run, and hit full throttle, a soccer ball hit me in the face. I dropped my transmitter and the plane went out of control and hit 3 kids before it finally stopped. I was arrested for reckless endangerment and several other charges. I was sued by the parents. I called AMA and they said I wasn't covered because I was negligent and stupid.

My fictional tale is pretty far fetched. But, an insurance carrier can and will deny coverage if you totally disregard the rules related to the policy.
