RE: Extreme Flight Extra 58"
I am about to order the EF 58" Extra. I know it is late from prior posts but just thought I would chime in on the Saito 82, which I will put in this plane. We have had as many as 4 or 5 guys at a time with this engine in a variety of models. I have had mine in about seven (none have survived to this day), with the last in a GP Reactor. I usually flew a APC 14X4 in planes like the MOJO as did the other guys. In the Reactor I flew a Master Airscrew 14X6 because for some strange reason, the last two 14X4 APC props would not bite on the prop hub and so I could not tighten them. Tried sanding, extra washers, different nuts; did not matter.
Anyway, I then tried a MA 13X8 Scimitar at the suggestion of one of our avid 3D pilots, who actually suggested 13X6. I usually use 30% heli fuel but had a bunch of YS 20 fuel left over from a YS 110 that left going west, dragging a PA Edge with it and disappeared in the swamp. The 82 has plenty of power with the 14X6 and this fuel. I only had 7 or 8 flights with the new prop before the Reactor spun in (just because I fogot to clip the connector from the switch to the battery. When are they going to make a rx that works without the battery connected?)
This prop on the 82 spun up quicker and made pull outs and recovery easier, not that it was difficult before. I leaned it out to 9700 or so and backed off to 9200. While the Reactor will 3D, it is really better at pattern stuff and is pretty quick with it's thin airfoil. Seems like the EF Extra should be quite a bit better airplane than the Reactor but may fly at about the same speed if you want it to. The heli fuel will only make it better and more fuel efficient.
I would never have considered this prop without my friends suggestion so thought I would share this with you.
BTW, My 82 has most recently been in a Fliton Inspire, a Showtime 50 (did NOT like) and two Reactors. Any of you who have been flying the EF Extra and have also flown one of these I would enjoy hearing your comments about the two planes. I hope I can keep this plane farther from the ground until I am ready to land.
Thanks
