They are a guide but you really need to use a pitch gauge to set your curves.
Please explain.
I have never used a pitch gauge while setting my pitch curves and I always end up with a neutral setup with equal pitch on either side of 0 pitch
If you are running only linear pitch curves...which it appears you are, then you are correct, you only need the gauge to get zero at center. But most newbies like to run a normal mode pitch curve with only about -2 neg pitch. In order to get that -2, you
have to use a pitch gauge since as I stated, every heli is different. The Finless vids talk about this as well. A good place to start to get close to -2 at low stick is 40.
