RE: Extreme Flight Extra 58"
Oh fellas! At last I have maidened my extra!
The assembly has been plagued with gremlins including a new hs225 mg with a bad potentiometer and an engine fire with a new saito 82 (that's right engine fire). Everything is jake now, though. I only got one flight as I had to wait until sunset for the winds to die down, so not much to report. two clicks of up elevator with a forward cg and one click of aileron. One thing has me a little puzzled is about 4+ clicks of right rudder. The engine mounting was not my best effort, though, and I will go through it again probably its not aligned right from the holes I drilled. Lands at a walking pace and sits right down with no fuss whatsoever.
Saito 82 throttle response was not the greatest, but the low and high are still rich. I may switch to a vess 14X6 and see how it goes. I would rather stay away from higher nitro (right now, 15% wildcat with 18% synthetic.) Saito is on a cline regulator which seems to be working alright. There doesn't seem to be any pressure left in the tank at the end of the flight, but it doesn't have any leaks so I guess its good.
The only modification to the airframe I made was a suggestion by Michael H to block off the top of the hatch to prevent fuel from coming through into the fuse. I just put a piece of ultracote on there. Also, I put a piece of white ultracote across the bottom of the plane where the gear is to keep the lines smooth and to not have gunk go into the gear fairings. I may also close up the hole in the firewall a bit.
Nothing like a safe landing on a maiden flight with no serious issues at sunset with the fellas. So far, so good, extremeflight.
