look at it this way. a kit gives you 100+ hours of building entertainment while an arf gives you 5-15 (i've never gotten more than 10 out of any arf).
In my experience I've never gotten ANY building entertainment whatsoever from an ARF. ARF's seem to somehow retain all the most tedious, annoying, and least pleasurable parts of "building" (for example doing the plumbing and linkage) without any of the joy of construction.
