Greetings All,
I have acquired one of these , it is New and never run, I was wondering about break-in on it.
I know that they have there own Evolution synthetic oil available, but was wondering if something like Saber or Dominator (both synthetic) would work as well? also what mix would be good to start out with for break in on this eng and then what mix for after break-in.
With the gas I run 97 octane 50:1 in my 3W55 TOC that is what they recommend I am wondering if the higher octane would be fine in this or should I be using good ol reg gas at 87 oct.
I did call Horrizon and the product support I received was basicly NONE. I asked the person I spoke with if he had any experience with this eng and he said SHURE I DO. Well I am going to say that He does not! he said to break it in on 20:1 first I said isnt that a little light on the oil for this, reply was well yes it is, I told him of the Sabor and the Dominator and that they are 100:1 syn oils and asked about that and he said that is fine break it in at 100:1, I am thinking why did he say 20:1 I asked about the octane of the gas and he said use what ever you want.
SO I am here asking if Any One has any experience with this eng and what the recommendations are of Current or Past users of this eng.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Jeff
OK, this engine is built by MVVS, and they know exactly what it does need. So do I.
Use only premium gas, 91PON or better, leadfree. 87PON will ruin your engine.
For running in, use the same fully synthetic racing oil as for later running, but at 3-4% mix (1:30). Don't believe all the mumbo jumbo about mineral oil for running in. Only lesser engines require the extra wear that the mineral oil provides to seat the less than perfect ring lands.
when run in, use a 2.5% oil mix (1:40)
There are several oils marketed that fill the bill. MVVS recommends Mobil 1 2T racing (I have a stock), but other fully synthetic racing oils that exceed a viscosity of 10 ctokes at 100C also will do.
Considering the basic requirements of the engine, Amsoil Dominator is not the way to go. It is way too thin with only 7.6 cSt@100C
