How Do You Cover Undercambered Wings
Just had a question pop into my head yesterday when I was visiting a local aircraft museum. I can clearly see how full-sized aircraft with undercambered wings that utilize cloth covering use stitching to pull the covering to the under surface of the wing. In a large scale model that uses an undercambered wing, it seems to me that you can't use any of the typical coverings that utilize heat to shrink them. I. E. Solortex, Stits Lite, 21st Century Fabric, any of the films, etc ... If you attach the covering to the perimeter of the bottom of the wing only, once you use heat to shrink the covering, it will make the covering act like a drum. If you attach/glue the covering to the top and bottom of the ribs, once you shrink it, it will either pull away from ribs or pull the ribs together. Sooo, short of using real stitching, how do you do it? Attach and not shrink? Shrink only a little?
Curious mind wants to know.
Thanks in advance,
