Dan,
Before you do that, take a scrap piece of wood, apply the covering material to it, and then add the pinking tape, and a coat of your primer (whatever you are using). Then use some 400 Wet or Dry sandpaper, and work on the edges a little, and then hit it with another coat of the primer. See what that looks like. You may need to do it again, and keep on trying until you manage to subdue the pinked edges. Then you will know if you want to do that or not.
