Okay, here's a big secret tip for you.
You can use Ultracote to attach your canopy. You can use some RC 56 or other canopy glue to tack it in place if you want, then use a strip of matching (or contrasting) Ultracote. Use a trim iron on low heat. You can really stretch and conform Ultracote to do a nice job. It will stick to the canopy, trust me. Take an old canopy or the scraps from a trimmed canopy and try it. I like to get about 3/16" minimum on the canopy and the plane, so a 3/8" strip is about right. If you goof up, just warm the Ultracote and remove it. You only want enough heat to activate the adhesive. You really don't need to shrink anything if you pull the material tight as you go. If you're really picky you can taper the the very edge of the plastic canopy to help avoid a square edge.
