Thanks for the comments Mike.
The carbon fiber veil is rather amazing. It's light, but after applying CA it seems to be very strong.
In my previous post you might have noticed that two of the screws were missing from the retract mount.
I couldn't drill the mounting holes deep because the carbon fiber tubing is below the screws so I knew that I needed to use wood inserts as shown in the image.
I used hard maple for the retract mechanism mounting. I had a problem with getting the brass inserts in to the holes of the hard maple. The tabs of the insert kept breaking off when I used a slotted screwdriver to screw it in to the hole. Finally it dawned on me to insert a screw in to the brass insert and then use a screw driver to screw the insert in to the hole. The result is a threaded hole in wood that just won't let go or strip out.
I wouldn't even have mentioned my problem with getting the brass inserts in to the hard maple but it took me a while to find an easy solution. I was traying to track down inserts made of stainless steel so the tabs wouldn't break off when screwing it in. Now I don't have to.
I managed to get make some progress installing the retract in the other wing half. I should have some time to work on it over the next few days so hopefully I will finish this up soon and move on to something more interesting.
