Mike,
I attended an RC show 2 weeks ago with just that intention. I looked over the transmitter impound and if I recall correctly there were 7 of the JR XP9303 transmitters and none of the Futaba 10c transmitters. There were plenty of Futaba transmitters, just none of the 10c models.
I asked some of the JR XP9303 owners about their transmitters, but I was really looking for their thoughts about the entire system including receiver and their experience with system reliability. I didn't get much information. No one offered a substantial opinion. One flyer said to pick one of the two based on the features that you're after and that's about all I got. I guess the lack of negative comments about the JR XP9303 is actually a positive comment. People are usually quite willing to tell you about a bad experience.
I thought it was interesting reading on the JR website that talks about problems and fixes with the JR XP9303. Here is the link:
http://www.jrradios.com/Articles/Hob...#HobbyWire1252 I didn't see this info on the Futaba website. It's probably there somewhere.
I didn't see any of the planes with more than 1 satellite receiver. That surprised me because it is the most outstanding feature that the JR has to offer. Multiple receiver antennas at a variety of angles in the planes seems like a good idea.
I mentioned to a couple of flyers that my B-36 will be covered in FliteMetal. I got more comment about FliteMetal than I did about radio gear selection. It seemed they knew someone who had covered a plane in FliteMetal and the results were good. Their perception was that the receiver antenna wires MUST be exposed to the outside of the plane. Ed, I read the information on your website that covered your testing. I recall that your tests showed that the antenna did not have to be on the exterior of the plane, but that was their perception.
I keep going back and forth between the JR and Futaba radio. The JR site doesn't make it easy to figure out the right combination. I read about power problems when you have a high servo count so I believe that I will want to use the 922 receiver which has dual battery connections. I'm still not clear about the DSM or DSM2 topic. Is DSM2 just an updated DSM? JR could do a much better job with their website....... and then add in the Spectrum receiver choices which makes it even more difficult to choose the best combination. I'm going to stop talking about this subject. That could be a whole 'nother thread on RCU.
So I still have some work to do before I have to buy the radio. I'm going to hold until the choice is clearer.
I am working on the retract for the other wing half. I only have one photo so far so I will hold off until I have more show. I have a couple of days of vacation and I hope to make some progress.
