RE: TBM props
Troy Built Models Prop 22 x 10. Very pleased with this propeller, and produced about 2 more pounds of thrust.
I obtained a TBM 22 x 10 propeller the other day. This prop seemed to be an upgrade for my plane.
I wanted to find a similar 22 x 10 that provided more thrust. Hopefully producing some better maneuvers. Thus to see the results I figured that I would obtain a fish scale and do some static test testing.
When I received the Troy Built Models Propeller I was very pleased. I tested the prop for balance. The balance was right on. Nicely finished, with a clear coating. Tested for fuel proof and stood up to the test. The prop was already pre-drilled. Great, and nothing more was needed.
I tested the thrust with a Z 22 x 10. This produced 6500 RPMs and 20 pounds of thrust. The down fall is that you have to drill out the hole for the bolt to fit, and then you have to balance the prop, etc… so you have to put in about 30 minutes of work to get the prop ready. The Z is $27 at my local hobby shop.
The Troy Built Models Prop was ready to go. Pre-drilled by the factory and pre-balanced. The RPMs were the same and but produced 22 pounds of thrust. The prop is about 3 mm thicker and the blades are thicker also. The TBM prop is less expensive than the Z.
I then tested a Biela 3 blade 20 x10 on the G62. The RPMs were 5800 and the thrust dropped to 19 pounds. The prop looks great, but cost $93, yikes. I can get almost 4 TBM props for this cost.
Looks like I will be flying with TBM 22 x 10 props. Excellent prop, Excellent product.
