The LP is Longitudinale Posteriore, referring to the engine placement and orientation.
Rear mounted engine, and the cranckshaft along or parallel to the front to rear centerline of the car. Of course, rear mount means in relation to the passanger cabin, not behind the axle. Afterall, Lamo intends this engin/tranny placement to be as close to mid-mounted as possible to reduce the longitudenal moment of inertia and most of all, to help distribute the weait as equally as possible to all four wheels.


Now, there are many cars that are transverse mounted, meaning the cranckshaft is aligned from left to right. This is common in 4cyclinders and even some 6cylinder engines. And with transaxle design becoming more and more compact, the weight of transverse mounted engines are not too lop-sided.
