I use a Dave Brown fiberglass rod with 4-40 pushrods (yes, its overkill but I'm an aggressive flyer).

I believe I had a similar experience. Sometimes I like to vent my frustrations in life and "yank" my controls around (gotta love those corners). I noticed that if you do an aggressive loop, it will snap out rather abruptly; but if you ease into the loop it will be fine (as tight as I want without snapping out).
