How hard is it to build a Marutaka?
I have no experience with either of those planes, however I have one of there p-38s setting here in the box waiting on me. When you open the box it's like finding a lumber mill in the rainforest.
You didn't mention your building experience so let me say this it is not a first time builders kit. The building instruction's leave a lot to be desired. 6 or 7 - 8x10 pages of fine print with little valuable information. plans are good but unfortunately fold. If you can't build from plans don't spend the money. this is not something your going to put together in a week or two. I've built a dozen planes 3 or 4 scratch built and I plan on a year depending on the available time perhaps even more. Been checking with other builders and finding out that servo placement and control linkage will be difficult in the confined spaces. Since when I get to this it will be my first scale warbird attempt I expect to find a lot of surprises and learn a lot. Oh and just so there's no miss understanding the year I have planed for this is just building, lining up control surfaces, installing retracts, and radio equip. I'm guessing at probably another 3-6 months for glassing where necessary, and detailing like panel lines, rivets, lights and that sort of thing..
I like building so for me this is going to be an adventure and probably lots of headaches but the end result should be worth it..
