Silver Palm Classic this Weekend
For those who missed the first Silver Palm Classic YOU were left out!
AMPS( Aeromodelers of Perrine) sponsered a first class event this weekend. The weather for the most part was great, except for testy winds at times making it more challenging.
The AMPS Club with its new improved runaways, golf course height cut Bermuda grass offered a great flying surface where even the retract folks with small wheels fly with ease.
Bob Cox the CD put on one heck of an event for those who attended bar none! Even though the pilot attendance was poor, those flew had a great time. Great fellowship amongst pilots in a relaxed atmosphere prevailed! All fliers trying to keep their competition in the air calling for one another, the fellowship and sportsmanship was great.
Despite the poor pilot turnout renewed local interest in pattern flying at AMPS was generated. Club pilots and spectators alike seeing what pattern flying is all about, learning that they too can be participant.
AMPS club is a hot bed of IMAC activity, but unfortunately with a nearing upcoming contest the AMPS IMAC pilots chose not to fly with us in an open Novice class where anyone can fly in essentially a "run what ya brung class" plaques awarded to the winner. Knowing that they could have done very well in essentially their own mini contest it would have been really fun to watch. The IMAC guys graciously did support us serving as judges for the event. Thanks!
This bald headed old retired Air Force pilot had a great time making new friends in an exceptional atmosphere, it was great! What more could one ask for? Finishing second in Novice Class for my first pattern event was a bonus, thanks coach Bob Cox. Being just a few months into SPA pattern flying it was an experience, still making gross mistakes under pressure and letting my emotions get the best of me at times. The worst type of competition MYSELF! More than before after this event I'm hooked into my goal of becoming a better R/C pilot through pattern flying.
Hope to see you at the next Silver Palm Classic!
