RE: WACO YMF
Don't know why, but I keep getting dropped out of this forum. Probably my computer. Didn't get any notifications of postings for a while. Finally checked and found three pages had passed!
Flew "Baby" for the final time this year. We've had a beautiful "Indian Summer" and I got in a few more test flights. I've added back some weight to the nose (2.5 oz.) and put my top wing at 0 Degrees to match the bottom wing. My other bipes flew well with negative upper wing incidence - but not the Waco. Only problem today was that I bounced her REALLY HARD on a cross wind take off. It broke the axel in one wheel and to my horror left said wheel on the grass. I flew around for quite a while enjoying the beautiful weather and testing her for control. Still a little too touchy on the elevator and in doing a hammerhead, I had so much rudder I was afraid the nose was going to touch the tail. But all in all I think I have her tamed! I had tried Expo in the stab but I just don't like it. After 35 + years of flying, I'm used to instant response when I move a stick and I tend to over-control with expo, so i took it out. All the time I was up there enjoying my self, I knew I'd have to come down some time and when that time finally came I brought her down as softly as I could and she just skidded along on the empty wheel pant with hardly a bother! Such a lady!! Wheel pant will need some work but all in all I think I lucked out. To bed now for the winter as the weather is predicted to be bad for the middle future! Here's the last pix of the year! Just about missed her!
Cheers
