Basically the more rpm you can get the more power the engine will produce. The usable power band will also be wider.

That's also pretty much why a 2.4l F1 engine can produce 8-900 hp. There's a reason they operate at up to 19000 rpm. There is no way they could do that running at 5000rpm.
