Try this:
connect the cable it will make a audible sound that is has connected the cable
go to hardware manager
remove the port where the cable has connected itself to will be a usb port with a ? in yellow.
when it is deleted
take out the cable , reboot the pc.
then install the software first
after installing the software , plug in the cable and when it can not find the driver point it to the map where the drivers are located on the cd.
windows will give warnings when installing the drivers because of not allowed drivers or aproved by BVM ....uhhhhhhhhh windows

i bet you had connected the cable first and then installed the software.
1 if you do not get a audible sound when connecting the usb cable.
most mistakes are made with making the cable to the different boards wrong.
you canb chek by using a different usb device and test the usb port.
those things CAN burn out
