Default RE: 1/4 Scale F4U-1A Don Smith Plans Build

Dan,

I've used Great planes Pro wood glue for everything except planking. There are to many curves to wait and hold every 2" wide plank. The gull or dihedral section of the wing I kinda skipped over a little but it is planked. It was another area where sheeting wouldn't work. I went per the plans on that. I'll show you a couple wic's of the planking. It all ran tip to tip as the sheeting did. I had to cut the strips from 1 1/2" to 2" to be able to get the bend. I also soaked the planking in my bathtub with amonia and water mixture. Then so the CA wouldn't gel I rinsed them real good with steaming hot water that helps it's flexability even more. It is planked from rib #8 to rib #5. I hope these pictures show you what I'm talking about as far as planking.

Thanks for the compliment,

Barry
