Push the elevator down as far as it will go and with a bar sander, sand the upper edge of the elevator to at an angle so that the center of the elevator remains the same but the top has more clearence for movement. You would need to do this on both sides of the elevator. Might be worth a try before removing it and having to rehinge. Good Luck, Dave
