Default RE: 1/4 Scale F4U-1A Don Smith Plans Build

My little trick,

When I put my gear in and it is a scratch build there aren't any parts that position the gear rails for you so I tape off around the area to be primed and then spray it so I won't have to count on pencil lines that aren't accurate. The pencil line is never right where the top and the ends of the rail goes. This way it's all painted except for the area that the rails go. I have found this to be much more accurate. Since it's all been leveled and test fitted now when I take them out all I have to do is epoxy them and clamp them in their respective positions. Then hand tighten the screws just as another guarantee that they are exactly where they were. After hand tightening all the screws I use a ratchet and tighten them down. Here is what I mean.
