I'm a new poster with what I think is a simple question. What is the top speed of RC jet's like I see flying at the local RC fields here in Southern California? I looked online and it appeared that the FAI states a record set in 1987 at under 200 mph.

I was nearby today and saw a plane (unsure of the scale) that was clearly a jet and appeared to be travelling faster than 200 mph. In searching the web it appeared that their are limits imposed by the AMA? or perhaps even federal air traffic control regulations regarding this?

The field I was observing was adjacent to Van Nuys Airport, the busiest general aviation airport in the nation.

Can anyone shed some light on this topic for a total newbie to RC aviation like me? I am a licensed Private Pilot but know almost nothing about the RC world.
