Taking off the cowl while breaking in a new engine is a very good idea and leaving it off permanently is something to consider as well. I have a fairly large hole in the bottom of the cowl and it still overheats and even more so while hovering.


The cowl does look nice but it is a pain to contend with particularly on a fun fly plane. In cool weather ,overheating may not be as much of a problem
