I just got my winter build today a sig hog bipe, probably not the best first build, but I have built a few kits a long time ago, and have built a couple of boats from plans many years ago. I am also going to try to build a smoothie from plans, with a little help from a builder friend, I also have a a couple of planes that I need to modify and finish and fix hanger rash .

I would say a sig kit, from what I have read, most of them are great first kits.
