Is the checkerboard individual squares? And, how is the model finished? Iron-on or glass and paint? TIA!

"somewhere out there," I like that location- think I've been to the place in my youth[8D]Ahhhhhm Well the finish is glass and paint and the squares were masked (using Contact brand clear vinyl self paper available at Walmarts Etc..with a base of White right
