Default Gyro problem?

I have a new (to me) Corona that I recently acquired. It's equipped with HS-81 servos and a Hitec GY-130 piezo gyro. It also has the stock motor and ESC. I've just recently gotten to the point where I've strapped it down to test balance, trim, etc. and I noticed that the TR servo was going fully CCW when I maxed out the throttle. When I reduced the throttle setting, it re-centered again. I didn't think too much of it since the battery was getting very low.

This evening, I was doing a little practice hovering (sliding around on the floor) in the garage and after a few minutes of stable behavior, the tail unexpectedly whipped to the left. Again, the battery pack was getting low and the throttle was getting up close to maximum. There was still just enough power to get it airborne but I was experiencing this tail whipping problem toward the end. I didn't have a chance to really experiment because the battery pack were soon finished.

Is this likely a gyro problem? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
