http://dhrc.rchomepage.com/calcAdvanced.htm It should tell you what your pulling for amps. I don't think a 30 should get hot. I've done the UBEC thing before and found I've never really needed it. Companies rate their stuff low so they can't be held accountable for misuse issues.

Jay...Just checked it. I guess I really don't understand what it's telling me. When I first got the 30a ESC, it would cut out if I had too much pitch, and it would get hot, so I ran better headspeed and reduced pitch, no probs. Now, it don't matter, after 3 minuets...hot shutdown.
