That is a fair comparison. I think you will want more tension than a timing belt, but that is the general range. If you spec a toothed belt, Gates (and other suppliers) have charts that will tell you how much horsepower the belt will take, tension settings and more. Going through that info will increase your success rate, for a few evenings spent reading and learning the details.
