Hi Reid, I would advise the following:

Unscrew the rubber cover of the plugs in the y-adapter (you have one radioshack mono and one right-angle mono) and of the plug (stereo) at the end of the usb interface cable, and solder the post to the lug for all three plugs. Then try your AFPD and see if the adapter works.
