LANDING GEAR SOLUTION?
Hey guys,
I think I may have a solution to the cracked Carbon Fiber gear issues. I had two sets of them and they both cracked during a "harder than usual" landing. Not immediately noticeable except for the unusual "stance of the plane" after a hard landing or two.
I bought the cessna 182 aluminum gear from Tower Hobbies. Stock Number LXUX08 . I had to cut them to fit in the same slots as the original gear. Then, I drilled a small hole in each one about an inch above the wheel on each side. Made two hooks out of some stiff wire and used wing rubber bands to "stiffen the suspension" .
It is quite forgiving with any type landing and you can adjust the "stance" of the plane by adding or taking out rubber bands. Doesn't look pretty but will allow you to practice landing this plane without cracking the original gear. Helps keep it from bouncing on landing too.
You can kinda see it here on this pic. I'll take a better one tonight and upload it.
